10 Holiday Tips

Travel Tips Issue No.1

PACKING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY

  1. Check your luggage  before you get to the airport with a luggage scale (airlines, particularly the low cost carriers have increasingly stringent conditions regarding weight and you may be charged a heavy supplement for going over their maximum weight allowance) - usually 15kg is a maximum weight for European carriers, 20kg for long haul flights

  2. Choose a light sturdy case with wheels and a distinguishing feature eg. a bow or luggage label so you can spot it easily on the carousel.

  3. Check the weight and size allowed for hand luggage.

  4. Remember that you may be asked to unpack your hand luggage for inspection. Check the rules for what you are allowed to take with you to avoid hassle at security eg. pack most cosmetics in your main luggage.

  5. Pack some essentials in your hand luggage in the event your case goes astray.

  6. Take clothes that do not crease.

  7. Roll rather than fold clothes as it prevents creases.

  8. Use sandwich bags for small items of clothing so you can see which socks to choose – especially good for children’s clothing.

  9. Choose clothes that are simple and can be dressed up with accessories for evening or day time wear.

  10. Think about a ‘layered’ approach to clothing, particularly if you are visiting different countries with different variations in temperature.
